Energy

“Our nation is in bondage to OPEC.  We should look away from the Middle East, and towards the Mid-West for a brighter and cleaner energy for America.”

Congressman Boswell has fought for over 30 years to break the United States’ bondage to OPEC and promote clean, renewable, Iowa grown energy.  In 2007 Boswell was an original cosponsor of H.R. 6, the Energy Independency and Security Act, which makes historic investments in America’s energy security and establishes requirements for renewable fuels production.

H.R. 6 also increases fuel economy standards for vehicles for the first time in over 30 years.  This long overdue increase will save at least 1.1 million barrels of oil a day in 2020, save consumers $25 billion, and reduce global warming pollution by almost 200 metric tons per year.

In the 110th Congress, Congressman Boswell authored the Consumer and Manufacturer Energy Efficiency Tax Credit Extension Act which would extend the Energy Efficient Appliance Credit until 2009.  This tax credit is given to manufacturers who build appliances (dishwashers, cloths washers, etc) that meet at least the Energy Star criteria.  It would also extend the Energy Efficient Existing Home Credit until the end of 2009.  This tax credit is given to consumers who purchase those energy efficient appliances for their homes.

In Congress, Boswell has supported making America more energy independent, creating high tech ‘green’ jobs for a ‘green future’, saving consumers and businesses money on energy efficient technologies, and ensuring low income families have affordable energy  costs.
