Boswell Votes to Renew Biodiesel Tax Credit
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Leonard Boswell voted for and the House passed H.R. 4213, the American Jobs, Closing Tax Loopholes, and Preventing Outsourcing Act, which will renew the critical biodiesel tax credit and restore renewable energy jobs that have been shed since the credit expired last year.
“Iowa’s homegrown energy industry has been one of my top priorities as a farmer, co-op president, leader of the Iowa Senate, and now as a Member of Congress,” said Boswell, who worked with House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Sandy Levin to secure a House vote on the credit before Memorial Day. “Not only do Iowa’s workers, small businesses, and communities benefit from a strong renewable energy industry, but the country as a whole does as we reduce our dependence on unfriendly, foreign oil.”
H.R. 4213 further invests in domestic energy production by extending tax credits for the production of fuels derived from biomass and the manufacture of energy efficient new homes. This legislation also extends the Research and Development Tax Credit to incentivize good jobs here in America and invent the technology that will power the global economy.
Boswell also supported this legislation to ensure that Medicare and TRICARE beneficiaries would be able to keep their doctors by voting to stop a 21 percent cut in Medicare physician payments that was to occur on June 1.
