Boswell Votes to Reduce Wasteful Spending in Government
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Leonard Boswell supported and the House passed H.R. 2142, the Government Efficiency, Effectiveness and Performance Improvement Act, to require federal government agencies to adhere to strict reporting requirements in order identify wasteful spending and inefficiencies.
“I supported this legislation to bring additional transparency and accountability to the federal government and its many departments,” Boswell said. “By requiring agencies to submit performance assessments and spending reports, Congress will be able to make sure that taxpayer dollars are being spent in an effective manner. Families across Iowa are sitting down at their kitchen tables at night to make tough budget choices and the federal government owes it to the American taxpayer to do that, too.”
H.R. 2142 would require federal agencies to assess performance on a quarterly basis to ensure federal taxpayer dollars are being spent in an effective manner; increase the transparency and accountability of government by requiring that each agency submit performance assessments to determine the effectiveness in meeting established high priority goals that have a direct benefit to the American people; make assessment reports publically available to both Congress and the American people so that they have critical information on federal agencies’ strengths and weaknesses.
